Here in SATX, it was a 'frozen day'.  Many schools & offices, like mine, were closed.  People largely kept off the roads due to icy conditions.  I worked from home, some of which included still getting up to speed in the first college class I taught at UTSA.

Periodically throughout the day, I was checking in with the head of our Employee Action Committee at work.  An EAC-sponsored Happy Hour had been planned.  That was in peril due to the weather, and many people were understandably bailing.  Not me though; I wanted to get outta the apartment.  I had to go downtown to pay a traffic ticket anyway.

After paying the ticket, I checked back in on the status of the HH.  I'm not sure anyone was left on the 'will attend' list by that time.  Even she was a little wary how her car would handle the roads.  I barely knew her, having just met her a week or two prior.  I told her I was going regardless.  I wanted to pick up some suits at Jos. A Bank, and shop for some new shades.

I was in a great mood: it was freezing outside, I'd just started teaching, I had just fulfilled a childhood dream by buying an 8-piece drumset, etc.

I eventually ended up at The Yardhouse for the HH.  And it turned out that it was indeed just her & I that showed up.

I honestly don't remember much from that evening, other than dressing up in my Slayer hockey jersey, my new shades sitting on the table in a nice, neat little paper-bag, and having a pretty good time hanging out with her.  I also remember watching her walk away in the other direction.

The head of the EAC at the time was Jody Joles.
